Asbestos Identification Lab Becomes SanAir
Boston, MA (May 6, 2026) — SanAir Technologies Laboratory, Inc. (SanAir), a division of Gillson Sciences and an accredited leader in environmental testing services, today announced the formalization of a 15-year partnership with Asbestos Identification Lab (Asbestos ID), an environmental services firm specializing in PCM/PLM analysis of building materials. The transaction establishes SanAir’s first laboratory presence in Boston, Massachusetts, marking the next chapter in its evolution under the Gillson Sciences platform and reinforcing the combined organization’s mission to protect human health through science-driven environmental solutions.
Why Boston
The Boston geographic expansion positions SanAir to serve the broader Northeast region, one of the most significant markets for environmental testing and home to nearly 20% of the U.S. population. Given that a significant portion of the building stock predates modern construction and environmental standards, along with ongoing construction and renovation activity and a rigorous regulatory environment, the region represents an important market for diversified environmental testing. Establishing a local presence allows SanAir to respond faster, serve clients more effectively, and contribute to safer communities across Greater Boston and beyond.
The Alliance
Asbestos ID brings deep expertise and a well-established reputation for rigorous analytical standards to the SanAir portfolio. Its capabilities in asbestos identification — including Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM), Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM), bulk material testing, and air monitoring support — complement SanAir’s existing suite of services spanning air and indoor air quality, asbestos analysis, environmental microbiology, Legionella detection, lead and metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), soil vapor intrusion, biogas matrix analysis, and materials science.
Asbestos ID will assume the SanAir name, while maintaining the same location and outstanding staff, ensuring continuity of service for existing clients and upholding the quality standards and client relationships that have defined its reputation. Clients of both organizations will benefit from expanded service offerings, enhanced laboratory resources, and the broader Gillson Sciences scientific infrastructure.
Leadership Perspectives
“The formalization of our longstanding alliance with Asbestos ID provides an important anchor to support the built industry of the Northeast through our presence in Boston,” said Sean McGlynn, president of SanAir.
“Accurate, reliable asbestos testing plays a critical role in protecting public health and ensuring regulatory compliance. With greater geographic reach comes greater impact — and this partnership positions us to address environmental health risks with more speed and precision for clients across every region we serve.”
“This partnership reflects our deliberate strategy to build a more integrated, holistic approach to human health — one that recognizes that the environments where people live, work, and breathe are inseparable from their long-term well-being,” said Jason Fischer, CEO of Gillson Sciences. “The addition of Asbestos ID deepens that commitment and strengthens our position as a leader in environmental health science.”
“Joining the SanAir and Gillson Sciences family gives us the platform and resources to accelerate the impact of our work,” said Mike Manning of Asbestos ID. “Our 15+ year working relationship, combined with our focus on delivering trusted results, makes us a natural fit. I have complete confidence that the legacy we have built at Asbestos ID will endure and flourish under the SanAir umbrella.”
